Duncan Robson

In 1995, after a successful career editing and directing TVCs and music videos, Duncan saw the need for director centric production service, and started The Network.

Skilled in many genres of directing – documentary, TVCs and drama – film and stage, Duncan has won Cannes Lions, CLIOs, International Travel Film Festival, WorldFest Houston, Sydney Advertising Awards, Spikes and several others.

A classically trained film editor (from Moviolas to Avid and Resolve), Duncan was recognised throughout Europe as a skilled editor. Duncan has directed many TVCs in the UK, around Europe and territories as diverse as Brazil, Vietnam, the US, and Saudi Arabia. His grounding in post-production was also a good foundation for FX driven work.

Duncan was brought up in East and West Africa, often in remote and wilderness areas. Where storytelling, around campfires, was the main entertainment and a keen eye for detail was an asset.

Duncan’s example inspired Academy Award winning editor, Jinx Godfrey to a career in editing. She describes Duncan as ‘an exceptionally spiritual individual whose unwavering love for Africa has been a constant throughout our acquaintance. I cannot conceive of a more qualified or gifted director…’.

Kim White

Kim has a passion for languages, cultural nuance and a deep interest in people and their different approaches to life. This passion helps her get to grips with the essence and subtle detail of The Network’s international projects and to adapt to different management cultures and workflows of The Network’s clients.

Kim’s background as an international account handler, with Grey Worldwide in London, and the broad experience gathered in her ascent to being one of the most respected Executive Producers in Cape Town, equips her with rare and valuable insights into the ‘bigger picture’ behind productions and ensures a friction free application of The Network’s resources to our client’s projects.

Kim has a deep commitment to maintaining fair and equitable relationships with all role players in The Network’s value chain, something that contributes an extra element of motivation and togetherness in The Network’s crews, a positive vibe that helps her extract that crucial extra value from client’s productions.

One of Kim’s superpowers is her ability to see the core objectives and motivation for clients’ investment in their productions.  This ability to ‘suss out’ the marketing rationale behind a project is a tremendous asset and means The Network’s clients feel not only listened to, but also heard, no matter how great the language barrier may at first appear to be.

Kim is above all, adaptable and quick to react to clients’ needs often pre-empting and eradicating logjams, creative miscommunication and inefficiencies before they disturb the flow of our productions. This ability to respond quickly to the changing dynamics of a production forms her approach. Kim’s leitmotif is Einstein’s saying : ‘Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results’ or more simply put, why keep banging our heads against a wall, when we can find a better way?

Herman Warnich

Herman Warnich, Network’s Head of Production, is a ‘filmophile’, a true student of the art of the moving image, with a passionate and enthusiastic interest in films, particularly in their artistic and cultural aspects.

Herman started in the dramatic arts, in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama, venturing briefly upon the local theatre scene as a Set Designer and Stage Manager before his true passion led him into film production and a work history that saw him, literally, work up through the ranks of the local industry, from set & company PA to serving stints as Assistant Director, Unit Assistant, Cast Coordinator and Camera Assistant before moving to Vancouver, Canada in 2007.

In the Canadian film industry, Herman trained and worked as a Camera Assistant and Playback Assistant on big ‘North Hollywood’ soundstages, on TV shows such as ‘Smallville’, ‘Fringe’, ‘Supernatural’ and features such as ‘2012’ and ‘Night at the Museum’.

In 2011, Herman returned to South Africa again, working up through the industry as Production Coordinator, Production Manager on productions for a wide array of TVCs with most of the top local production companies. From 2017 he worked regularly for The Network team as Production Manager and Asst. Producer and ‘clicked’ with Kim and Duncan to become a valued member of The Network’s core team, where he is now Head of Production and a partner.

Herman’s experience and knowledge of all facets of international and local production as a ‘film mechanic’ is an invaluable asset in crewing Network shoots, ensuring compatibility and unruffled management of our productions, no matter what challenges arise. His love of all things film – the medium, editing, storytelling, the whole process, from concept to execution brings a refreshing calm enthusiasm to every set.

Estian Jansen van Rensburg

Estian is a Capetonian, through and through. As one might expect from someone whose career journey began with dance and choreography, the long hours of teamwork, practice and coordination, Estian has infectious energy for his job, for The Network and for ensuring that all aspects of our productions and office management are friction-free.

Estian is the safety net behind much of The Network’s ability to react quickly, to support, and supply our teams with reliable information and the tools to deal with whatever curve balls may come The Network’s way.

After a decade exploring other career pathways Estian, now in his second stint with our team, saw the light and returned to The Network with a renewed sense of purpose, focus and, as ever, boundless positive energy. Estian has a gregarious, compassionate personality, a wide circle of friends and the special ‘child’ in his life – his dog.

Estian identifies strongly with The Network’s ethos and style and is on a permanent, personal mission to supply crews with all they need to continually ‘up their game’ and match his drive for excellence, as per his motto ‘Make it Happen!’
